Juncos IP2K Recap 2019

TORONTO – Juncos Racing’s Rasmus Lindh extended his championship lead with two more podium finishes in Rounds 8 and 9 of the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires in Toronto. Teammate Sting Ray Robb picked up a Top-5 finish during the final race of this weekend.

The fifth weekend of the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Championship began with one practice session followed by two qualifying sessions on the 1.786 mile, 11-Turn street course located near downtown Toronto.

Lindh (Gothenburg, Sweden) driving the No. 10 Chicago Pneumatic/Juncos Racing car narrowly missed both pole positions, qualifying second for both Round 8 and 9. Robb (Payette, Idaho) driving the No. 2 Go Out Local/BigIdahoPotato/Juncos Racing car qualified fourth for Round 8 and fifth for Round 9.

The first of two races of the Cooper Tires Grand Prix Presented by Allied Building Products kicked off Saturday morning. Lindh would start second and Robb fourth. Once the green flag waved multiple cars went to battle for the front of the field. Lindh, who fell back to the third position was able to regain second, while teammate Robb moved into third. A caution came out shortly after due to a car in the wall in Turn-11. Once the race returned to green both Juncos Racing cars traded back and forth for the second position. On lap 15 Robb’s day came to an early end after slight contact with the wall in Turn-6 caused damage to the left rear suspension, retiring the No. 2 entry. Lindh closed in on the leader, however, would settle for the second spot on the podium collecting the first podium of the weekend for Juncos Racing.

The weekend came to a close on Sunday morning with Round 9 of the Indy Pro 2000 Championship. Lindh took the second starting position for the second day in a row and Robb would start fifth. Lindh went on to set a new track record of 1:07.0213 (95.934 mph) and finish third in the No. 10 entry, earning his second podium in two days. Robb picked up a Top-5 finish, taking fifth.

Lindh continues to lead the Indy Pro 2000 Championship with five rounds to go.

“We started off the weekend pretty strong with qualifying second for both races,” said Lindh. “We finished second in the first race and finished third the in the second race. I know we had the pace to win, evening setting a new track record, but I had some small mistakes in the beginning of the race so we were not able to collect the win. Two podium finishes helped us gain some more valuable points for the championship and extend the lead. I am looking forward to getting back in the car next week at Mid-Ohio.”

Robb currently sits fifth in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship.

“We had a really fast car throughout the weekend at Toronto,” said Robb. “In Race 1 we had a great car running inside the Top-3, as high as second at some points. However, I hit the wall exiting Turn-6 causing damage to the suspension which ended our race, but we showed really good potential for another podium. In the second race we still showed great pace but ended up fifth. Thanks to a great team, all of my sponsors, supporters and partners who helped me this weekend.”
